FORCE AND STILLNESS
Natural marble, fiberglass, automotive outdoor spray paint

is an outdoor public sculpture commissioned by the 2024 China Open, held at the Olympic Park in Beijing, China. This abstract sculpture inspired by the shape of tennis balls, composed of 24 spherical elements that symbolize the natural rhythms and cycles of time. Through the static form of the tennis balls, the artwork explores the dialectical unity of movement and stillness.
Drawing from the philosophy of the Tao Te Ching, movement and stillness are not opposites but are interdependent and complementary. Movement embodies change and energy, while stillness represents balance and tranquility. Their harmonious unity reflects the fundamental principles of nature and the universe.
The sculpture's abstract form invites contemplation on nature, time, and space, conveying a profound essence of Chinese philosophical thought.
